Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Raptor morning

It was exciting and frustrating at the same time.  Three raptors and yet unable to capture them in one frame, in fact, the migrants were more than elusive.
First, I almost missed this Oriental Honey-buzzard, a female as suggested by its yellow iris, as it almost blended in with the branch.  It got me excited as I noticed it was a migrant bird, and just as it flew off, another one followed after which I thought was the other frequent visitor to the taman.

And true enough, this one which could now be almost considered a resident going by the frequency it's sighted in the taman, came flying in.

And going its watchful behaviour and constant eyeing of the pond water, I knew it was just a matter of time before it flew down to drink.
For a raptor, it was extremely cautious as it approached the pond.

Then the pond was his until ...

Nevertheless another look around before it went for the water.

Then something caught its attention.

This one had returned and come down, it's the earlier female bird, the same yellow iris.  Unfortunately that was as far as this bird got as it was even more wary and flew up and away immediately when a runner approached.  An opportunity lost for me!
And almost immediately as it flew off, another flew up and off after it, from a nearby perch, which I had not noticed and missed!  A second regret!  So there were three raptors after all!
And thereafter, the pair of migrant visitors were seen circling high and low above the taman, did try to land again but unfortunately still did not when I left.
