Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Koel in the falling light

Another late evening walk which looked like it was going to end in a disappointment with nothing much to sight, then the sudden calls of a male Asian Koel alerted me to its presence and the possibility of a female in the vicinity.

Unfortunately all I managed of the male was a blurred shot, very much blocked by twigs and leaves.

Walking on and scanning the surrounding area, some movements in a deep section of trees caused me to take second looks, and there was the female, tucked deep in there, preening in the falling light.

As it's generally easier to spot the male but not the female, I was only too happy to go on photographing it, especially when its feathers flared like open petals.  It also stayed in that one spot longer than it normally would in any spot, perhaps due to its hidden position, and it was also not bothered by my movements, constantly moving about to get the best shots.
