Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Unexpected migrant Kingfisher

And so it's 99th species, with the Black-capped Kingfisher!
This is a common migrant visitor to coastal and mangrove areas or wetlands but would be considered uncommon to a place like the taman.  Thus, when I first saw it I had thought it was just a passage migrant, to stay for the night only but was most surprised to come across it again after so many days.
It's a most challenging bird to get close to because it's simply super alert and will fly at the slightest hint of disturbance.
This Kingfisher is found in China, Korea and Japan and a regular winter visitor to countries like Malaysia and Singapore.  It feeds on fish, frogs and lizards, and large insects.

It was perching so openly when I chanced upon it that I was pretty startled to see it again.  It was certainly the thick red beak that gave it away!
