Wasps!
The pair of wasps which I believed were Mud Daubers took me by surprise when it circled about me, oblivious to my presence. Eventually when both came together and clung on to a bare thin branch, did I realise that they were actually onto a compromising position!
And then it was over, with one still clinging on.
