Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Cuckoo thrill

It has been more than a year since I last came across the Banded Bay Cuckoo in the taman.  This one was certainly a bonus encounter just after the precious kingfisher sighting.
It had us running in circles, almost, after it as it hunted for moths.  We were however duly rewarded.

Soon after this catch, it was busily seeking the next.

And bingo! it got another on the ground.  This is one bird that moved deftly from up the tree to the ground after its catch.

It's such a gorgeous gorgeous bird with its overall barred plumage.  Who would not fall in love with this beauty, despite what looked like a tear at its neck!
