Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Woodpecker seeking a meal

This was a move away from its typical foraging trunk and the Banded Kingfisher did not seem to have much success.  With a cry, it descended on the dead palm leaf and probed, poked and dug.

As with any bird, it flew to a neighbouring trunk to clean and dust after its forage.
I guessed it was unaware or perhaps unfazed by my presence, with its back to me, it proceeded to clean itself, as it ought to after rummaging through the dried palm leaf, perhaps having acquired a tick or two in the process.
