Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Food of the Sunbird

The Sunbird has favourites in the taman.  It is easily found where there are banana plants and flowering trees.  However, be warned that it is not easy to spot these birds.  At about 14 cm it is small but its shiny metallic greenish head gives it away among the foliage and blossoms.
The Brown-throated Sunbird is always on the move, even as it perches to feed, it is off in a split second.  The dull throat colour, naturally brown, of the male bird differentiates it from the female.  But the female bird and the female Olive-backed Sunbird may be rather difficult to discern immediately.
