Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Small and adorable

This little adorable Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, of about 9 cm only, is a favourite target of birders because of its striking scarlet colour, certainly not an easy bird to photograph because of its size and how it's always on the move foraging at the middle to upper canopy of flowering trees.  Fortunately one is always alerted to it by its sharp continuous calls, and this bird also has its favourite trees so detecting it is not too difficult.
I have had some luck in the afternoon when I came across it preening and managed some almost close-up shots, for the first time.  Added to that, I managed an image of the female too, although at another part of the taman.
